Originally this weekly market place was formed by rural people who brought their local heirlooms to sell in Beijing. Now it has turned into a flea market where diverse crowds come for shopping and entertainment. Recently the government remodeled PanJia Yuan into a permanent market run according to capitalist principles, a place where merchants can seek their Chinese Dream.
